Everything you need to know about Lamp Berger
Lampe Berger was designed in 1898 by pharmacy dispenser Maurice Berger to eliminate germs and clean the air in hospitals and funeral homes. Over the years, the option to diffuse perfume was added, which made the catalytic lamp very popular for everyday use.
Since then, Lampe Berger has become a household name in France. In the past century, the lamp’s look has evolved. The brand has made collaborations with prominent and contemporary designers like Coco Chanel, Picasso, Colette and Jean Cocteau to reflect fashion changes. Nevertheless, the purpose of the Lampe Berger has remained the same: to eliminate bad odours in your space, to diffuse joy through the power of perfumery, and decorate your interior.
The best thing about Berger lamps is that they don’t just mask unwanted odours, they actually act as an air cleaner and room deodorizer by diffusing a range of high-end fragrances through a truly unique catalytic system.
The diffuser refills are not oils, but they are composed of pharmaceutical-grade alcohol (Isopropyl), water and fragrances. All fragrances are tested through extremely rigorous quality protocols to ensure the quality of the raw materials used. The perfumes are created in Grasse and Switzerland. When the lamp burns the alcohol, it removes existing odours from the air while diffusing an amazing aroma formulated by master French perfumers.
The products are not tested on animals and contain no materials of animal origin.
Lampe Berger fragrances are more like perfume for the home.
How to use your Lampe Berger
Using your Lampe Berger correctly is the only way to enjoy its full benefits and it is incredibly easy.
- Fill the lamp no more than 2/3 of the way with the Maison Berger Paris home fragrance of your choice using the funnel to prevent spills. If this is the first use, let the wick soak for 20 minutes. So, the solution is absorbed by the wick into the catalytic stone.
- Light the burner and let the flame go for two to three minutes. This ensures the burner reaches the temperature required to catalyze. Do not leave for much longer or the ceramic top will burn. The flame will be high at the beginning, but it shouldn’t emit any smoke.
- Blow out the flame after 2-3 minutes.
- Let the fragrance diffuse for 30-45 minutes per use. This is ample of time to scent most rooms.
- You can stop the diffusion any time by covering the burner with the snuffer cap. Replacing the snuffer cap on the burner stops the catalytic diffusion process by blocking oxygen to the burner and allowing it to cool.
- Keep the lamp sealed when not in use. Leaving the burner uncovered when you are not using your lamp will result in the evaporation of fragrance in your lamp.
- Next time you want to use your fragrance your Lampe Berger, just light it for 2-3 minutes again, blow out the flame and enjoy!
- Do not mix perfumes. To change scents in your lamp, we recommend running your wick through a “cleaning” cycle by letting the liquid burn completely, and then adding just a bit of Air Pur So Neutral to the lamp. When the diffusion cycle is complete, you can add the next scent.
- If you find the fragrance too strong, mix it with Air Pur So Neutral to dilute the strength of the scent.
Other things to consider
- Add Air Pur So Neutral to any Maison Berger Paris home fragrance to dilute the aroma for less intensity. You can also burn it alone to remove odours from the air without fragrance. Use it also to clean your wick when you want to change fragrances. Just follow the steps for using your Lampe Berger and burn only the Air Pur So Neutral solution, then fill with the new fragrance refill.
- Use the Air Pur So Neutral to extend the life of the burner. Use the Air Pur So Neutral from time to time to clean the wick and the lamp interior. This refill is used like the other refills and needs to diffuse for 20-30 minutes. Never clean the burner with water or other cleaning agents.
- Using other products in your lamp can damage the wick. Only use Maison Berger Paris catalytic lamp refills.
- To avoid scent evaporation, we recommend covering your burner with the snuffer cap when the lamp is not in use. Be mindful of keeping the lamp near heat sources or in direct sunlight, as any heat sources may also expedite fragrance evaporation.
- If you do not plan to use your lamp for several weeks, it is best not to leave the burner inserted in the lamp. Leaving the burner inserted in the lamp will oversaturate the wick with the oil and reduce its life span. Remove the burner from the lamp, let it air-dry, and store it in a dry place until next use. Keep the lamp empty of fragrance and cover with the snuffer cap. This prevents the metal parts oxidizing through contact with perfume.
